Harry was my horse who I backed; this is our journey.

I decided to write our adventure 2 years in, to see how far we would go and to remember everything. It started in Jan 2017 after a couple of months holiday through the winter but little did I know how soon it would all come to an end.

Feel free to read on our achievements and the struggle in the final days.

We don't choose how long they get to be on this earth but we can make their time here worthwhile.

Rest in peace.

I wrote the final page.

I thought that was it.

But I know now, that there is more. Even after.

Maybe not through him but through those around.

It's been a tough year.

They say time heals, as though greif goes away. Instead I feel that my life is building around it. I have to learn the beauty in grief and in the memories.

It's difficult but life is going on. My eyes shall water every day, my heart shall ache, my mind can dream and...

There's no easy way to write this. And although I had expected it at the beginning, it had all started to sound so hopeful.

But there was nothing I could do for Harry but make the most important decision for him. The hardest decision of my life, one I thought I had at least a few more years before even needing to start thinking about it.

Yet it presented itself. Here and now.

I looked at Harry and I knew. The boy was a shadow of...

So when we got home Harry saw the Bodywork lady again. There was pain in Harry's neck - he bit himself every time at the same point in his neck. It was something we were just going to keep an eye on but Harry started showing other signs that something was wrong:

Lethargic, stumbling on near-fore, lame on off-hind, was very flat in carriage, walked with head straight or low, she stopped playing with the other horses.  He was not...

As I am writing this Harry has been at his working holiday home for 1 week. An amazing week it's been.

He arrived Saturday morning, was lunged in the evening in the dark. The first time he has been exercised in the dark and he did amazingly.

At home he is in the stable at night and out for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Here he is in most of the time with about 2-4 hours in the paddock. But I don't mind this as he gets exercised o...

This will be the last of my 'Week' posts. This is because I am taking Harry on a 2 week holiday to another yard where we can focus on our training and fittening. So hopefully we can start having more interesting titles and these may end up being for a few weeks periods.

Monday started again with free schooling with the same friend. This time Harry completed free schooling in walk, trot and canter as after a couple of days off h...

Monday - A friend of mine completed Harry's exercise today. She used free schooling with lots of walk - halt transitions and turns. Also introduced a little bit of trot. Completed about 20 mins of exercise and from feedback he was a superstar.

Tuesday - I saw Harry today and we went hacking around the grounds. We did halt work and a nice trot, Harry got very excited and tried to canter! So I trotted until he calmed down. Went b...

This is our first week of properly starting to get back into ridden work.

Monday Harry got his shoes put back on, these were off while he was on holiday.

Tuesday and Wednesday we did some nice long in-hand walks (he had done short ones last week)

Thursday I checked controls were in place in the school, walking, halting and turning. Halting let us down. But I don't blame him for that, when I realised that the old saddle didn't fit...

January 9, 2017

I thought it only fair to summarise our first two years to get a true feeling of where we started.

Now this is likely to be my longest blog...

I got Harry in Sept 2014, he came as a blank canvas.

Day one - Harry arrived in the pitch black. We were hoping that he'd arrive during the daylight hours and he could go out into the field. But due to travelling confusions on the last day it was pitch black so he went into a stable. Next...
